First pictures of city centre mural in honour of Leeds United's Kalvin Phillips

The first pictures of the mural, taken by Yorkshire Evening Post photographer Simon Hulme, show the artist completing his work.

It's being painted on the side of a building in The Calls, near the junction with Crown Street.

‘The Yorkshire Pirlo’, as he is affectionately known is LS11, is yet to react to the mural which is still a work-in-progress.

Phillips was handed his first call up for England by boss Gareth Southgate in August.

The 24-year-old has been with United since joining the academy in 2010 but, before that, he ‘learned his trade’ with Wortley Juniors in West Leeds as a boy.

He realised a boyhood dream with his hometown club after earning promotion to top flight football.

Phillips has been out of action after tearing the ligaments in his shoulder after falling awkwardly during United's 1-0 defeat at home to Wolves on October 19.

The midfielder recently provided an update on his shoulder injury, aiming to return in three or four weeks.

The new mural follows the unveiling of a Marcelo Bielsa mural in Hyde Park earlier this year.

The black and white mural spans 90 square metres and bears the Bielsa quote: "A man with new ideas is a madman, until his ideas triumph".

The Bielsa mural was created by street artist Irek Jasutowicz, who showcases his work online under the name 'Tankpetrol'.

He was commissioned by the Parklane Group, who wanted to show their appreciation to the manager for guiding the club back to the Premier League.
