The defensive midfielder, a one-club man, is yet to play top flight football and was never called up for a youth international team.

But his contribution to Leeds' promotion success under Marcelo Bielsa last season put him on Southgate's radar and attracted interest from Jamaica, for whom he would have qualified through his father.

The 24-year-old has made 165 league appearances for his boyhood club and tonight becomes their 32nd player to represent England.

Southgate's side for tonight's game at Telia Parken in Copenhagen is as follows: Pickford, Alexander-Arnold, Trippier, Coady, Gomez, Dier, Phillips, Rice, Kane, Sterling, Sancho. Subs: Mings, Pope, Keane, Maitland-Niles, Ward-Prowse, Grealish, Mount, Abraham, Ings, Henderson.
