Ex-Leeds United youngster Lewie Coyle set for Hull City debut at Elland Road

Leeds United academy graduate Lewie Coyle could be set to make his Hull City debut at Elland Road this evening.

The Tigers make the short trip to LS11 in the second round of the League Cup having beaten fellow League One outfit Sunderland in the opening round.

Head coach Grant McCann is expected to name a mixed side for the clash with Marcelo Bielsa's men, relying on a number of senior players whilst bedding in youngsters.

Full-back Coyle, though, could be handed his first start for his hometown club having now served a suspension he picked up at the end of last season whilst on loan at Fleetwood Town.

The 24-year-old joined the Thorp Arch ranks as a youngster before going on to make 23 first-team appearances during his time with Leeds.

Coyle was then sent out on loan on a number of occasions to gain experience but now finds himself with City on a permanent basis.

“He’s got a chance for Leeds, hopefully he’ll be okay,” said McCann.

“The league is the most important thing for us this season so we’ve got to look at the squad and the freshness of the group and look to see who’s ready to go on Wednesday.

“It’s very hard to go Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday so we’ll see the freshness of the group.

“George (Long) was very close to being involved (against Gillingham) and I’d expect him to be involved (against Leeds)."

Another familiar face in striker Mallik Wilks may also be in line to take on the club where he began his career if selected this evening for Hull.
