EFL reveal latest coronavirus test results with another hit for Leeds United's promotion rivals

The EFL have revealed that 1058 players and club staff from the 24 Championship clubs were tested over the course of Thursday, May 28 and Friday, May 29.

The ten individuals who have tested positive will now self-isolate in line with the guidelines provided by the EFL and only those who have tested negative will be permitted to enter training ground facilities.

One of those individuals is a player from Leeds United's Championship promotion rivals Fulham who saw two players test positive as part of the EFL's second round of tests over the course of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

A statement released by Fulham on Saturday evening read: "Following the completion of the third round of league-wide testing for COVID-19 at the end of the week, we can confirm that one player, unnamed for medical confidentiality reasons, has tested positive. In line with league and government guidance, the player is now self-isolating."

Preston North End also revealed that striker Jayden Stockley had tested positive on the third round of tests undertaken as part of the return to training protocols.

Middlesbrough have also revealed that one individual has tested positive for coronavirus as part of the latest round of testing whilst Cardiff City have also been affected with a member of staff testing positive for COVID-19 as part of the third round of tests.

Blackburn Rovers captain Elliott Bennett tested positive for coronavirus in the second round of tests - along with the first two Fulham players.

Two individuals from Hull City tested positive as part of the first round of tests.

There is currently no testing programme underway in League One but an initial round of COVID-19 testing in League Two saw 135 players and club staff tested from four League Two clubs over the course of Thursday and Friday.

Seven individuals tested positive from three clubs.

The EFL say they will continue to make regular and relevant announcements as appropriate in respect of the testing programme to support competition integrity and transparency.

No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the league.

Leeds United returned to tailored training at Thorp Arch last Monday and are now awaiting further news from the EFL of when the currently suspended Championship programme will restart.

The Premier League will restart on Wednesday, June 17.

The Premier League revealed there were no positive results from its latest round of Covid-19 testing, providing a timely confidence boost for the planned restart.

A total of 1,130 players and club personnel were tested in the fourth screening session, which took place on Thursday and Friday, and yielded the first all-clear.
