CLAUDIO RANIERI’S agent has poured cold water on rumours linking the Italian to the manager’s job at Leeds United, insisting there is “no truth” in claims that Ranieri is a contender.
Ranieri was touted as a possible candidate for the vacancy at Elland Road after Garry Monk resigned from his role as head coach on May 25 amid reports that the 65-year-old had received an immediate approach from United.
Ranieri, whose last job in management saw him guide 5000-1 shots Leicester City to the Premier League title in 2016, reacted to those reports by telling www.trainingground.guru he was unaware of interest from Leeds and had received no contact from the club.
Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani revealed last night that he was meeting with potential successors to Monk this week but Ranieri agent, Steve Kutner, has effectively ruled him out of the running, telling the YEP: “There’s no truth to the rumours.”
Leeds have given no hints about the identity of the coaches on Radrizzani shortlist but discussions are expected to run into the weekend.
Sources close to former Crystal Palace and Newcastle United Alan Pardew have also told the YEP that United have made no approach for him.
