Kepa made giant strides at La Liga side Athletic Bilbao under the tutelage of Bielsa who made the then emerging Spaniard his no 2 goalkeeper.

Kepa's Bilbao debut came after Bielsa has departed for first Marseille and then Lazio but the 25-year-old Blues stopper says the Argentinian had a huge impact on his development with Kepa hoping to now face Bielsa in the Premier League next term.

Asked whether Bielsa had an impact on him, Kepa told Spanish publication Marca: “Yes, a lot. His attacking concepts, his way of seeing football is very different.

"They were spectacular years, I consider him a great coach and I have fond memories of him.

“I wish him the best, and hopefully next year we can meet in the Premier League.”
