Brescia target Leeds left-back Denton with Antonsson deal close

Italian club Brescia are seeking a loan deal for Tyler Denton with owner and former Leeds United chairman Massimo Cellino attempting to land two signings from Elland Road.

Cellino is close to striking an agreement for Leeds striker Marcus Antonsson but wants left-back Denton to follow the Swede to Italy ahead of his second season in charge of the Serie B side.

Antonsson has a year left on his contract at Elland Road but will not feature in the plans of new head coach Marcelo Bielsa next season.

Cellino, who bought control of Brescia after selling United to Andrea Radrizzani last summer, is in the process of finalising a deal for the forward, subject to a medical.

Denton, however, is also on Brescia’s radar having failed to feature for the first team at Leeds’ this season.

The 22-year-old left-back spent the first half of the term on loan at Port Vale but was forced to cut short his time in League Two by family issues.

He trained with United’s senior squad on his return to Yorkshire but was not involved in any league fixtures and has played only three times for the club, twice in the FA Cup and once in the League Cup.

Denton signed a new contract at Elland Road as recently as last August, committing himself to Leeds until 2020, but Cellino wants to take him a season-long loan with an option to sign the defender permanently.

United are open to offers for fringe players having decided to trim the size of their first-team squad before the start of the new Championship campaign.

Bielsa, who signed a two-year contract to become United’s new head coach last week, has already determined which players are surplus to requirements and goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald is on the verge of departing with talks over a move to Eintracht Frankfurt at an advanced stage. A return to Germany could be agreed before the end of the week.
