Lifelong Leeds United supporter Peter Lowy and ex Fiorentina CEO among new Elland Road directors

Leeds United have announced boardroom changes that include the appointment of Whites supporter and Australian businessman Peter Lowy.

Lowy, principle of the Lowy Family Group private investment business and formerly the CEO of the Westfield Group, is joined at the Elland Road boardroom table by Massimo Marinelli and Sandro Mencucci.

A lifelong Leeds supporter, Lowy is said by the club to be a 'significant investor' in the 49ers Enterprises investment vehicle.

Currently living in Los Angeles, Lowy has served as the chairman of the Homeland Security Advisory Council and is a director at the Lowy Institute for International Policy and the RAND Corporation.

His father Frank Lowy, who was reported in 2010 to have had an interest in buying, and his brother Steven had spells as chairman of the Football Federation Australia (FFA) from 2003 to November 2015 and 2015 to 2018.

Marinelli is CEO of Aser Ventures, the global investment firm owned by Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizzani, while Mencucci is a former chief executive of Serie A side Fiorentina.

The trio join chairman and majority owner Radrizzani, vice chairman Paraag Marathe and CEO Angus Kinnear to complete the board of directors, with Andre Tegner stepping down.

A club spokesperson said: "Peter Lowy was formerly the CEO of the hugely successful Westfield Group. Lowy is a lifelong Leeds United supporter who brings over 30 years of business experience with him.

"Massimo Marinelli who has played a pivotal role in generating investment into the club during Andrea’s ownership, including the increased involvement of the 49 Enterprises earlier this year and Sandro Mencucci will take a place on the new-look board having spent 17 years at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

"Andre Tegner departs, having joined as a director alongside Andrea in January 2017. He has been a well-respected advisor to Andrea and he leaves with the thanks and well wishes of everyone at Leeds United."

The board changes are subject to Premier League clearance.
