Rodolph Austin is in line for a recall to Leeds United’s midfield at Barnsley with Michael Tonge troubled by injury.

Tonge has an ankle problem and will be assessed by United’s physio staff in the run-up to tomorrow’s derby, but Austin is readying himself for a return after three games on the sidelines.

The Jamaica international suffered a minor injury at the start of the month but resumed training this week and will be part of Brian McDermott’s squad at Oakwell.

The loss of Tonge would be an unwelcome disruption for McDermott, however, after the former Sheffield United midfielder’s steady contribution to a 2-0 win over Blackpool last Saturday.

McDermott said: “Rudy’s an option for us.

“Tongey’s got a little bit of a problem with his ankle so we’ll have to look at that one, but Rudy’s fit now.”

McDermott is likely to keep faith with the majority of the players who ended United’s sequence of five straight defeats six days ago.

On-loan Crystal Palace winger Jimmy Kebe and defender Sam Byram both have hamstring strains and won’t be involved at Barnsley, but Leeds have no other concerns.

Lewis Cook could earn his first England cap this week.
