Phillips is approaching England's second game of this summer's European Championships against Scotland this evening having excelled on his major international tournament debut against Croatia.

In what was still only his ninth outing for his country, Phillips set up the only goal of the game for Raheem Sterling and in doing so became the first ever Whites player to provide an England assist at the Euros.

Kinnear has hailed the 25-year-old as a "great ambassador" for Leeds United Football Club but admits that such stellar performances for his country will no doubt lead to bids for the midfielder's services this summer.

Kinnear, though, says Leeds are confident of keeping their star men on the back of a superb first season back in the Premier League in which 17 goals from striker Patrick Bamford helped fire Marcelo Bielsa's Whites to a ninth-placed finish.

Asked if the club were close to announcing players lengthening contracts and pressed on Bamford in particular, Kinnear told BBC Radio Leeds: "All under control.

"All the players, we want them to stay, they want to stay and there are discussions being had but we are very confident of retaining everybody.

"We just need Kalvin to keep a little bit of a lid on it at the Euros because if he plays like that again we will get some offers!

"But we are very confident and it says a lot about Leeds United that Kalvin is proving what all Leeds United fans know about what a great midfielder he is.

"But we also know that his future is secured at Leeds United.

"He wants to be here, we want him to be here and I think that's a measure of where the club has got to.

"It's not just that he's such a great player but he's become a great man as well.

"He carries himself brilliantly.

"He's a fantastic ambassador for Leeds United and I know speaking to lots of fans that we all kind of feel like proud parents with him representing England so wonderfully.

"It's great for the club and it's great for him because he has worked so hard and he deserves all the success."
