It was the Whites owner who wanted the Under 23s coach to have a role in Marcelo Bielsa's first team staff in order to give the club a more fluid transition between the youth section and the senior set-up.

Corberan has been heavily linked with the vacancy at Huddersfield since yesterday's departure of Terriers' management duo Nicky and Danny Cowley, which came while Leeds were celebrating a 3-1 win at Derby County with the Championship title and promotion already sewn up.

The 37-year-old, who began his coaching career 11 years ago at Villarreal, has previously been a head coach for short spells at Doxa Katokopias and Ermis Aradippou in the Cypriot First Division.

He arrived at Thorp Arch to take charge of the Whites Under 23s in June 2017, at a time when a restructure was needed. A year later Bielsa was appointed as first team head coach and the 23s began to work more closley with the senior side and replicated their style and ethos.

An impressive run of form followed, taking Corberan's youngsters to a PDL National title

Radrizzani spoke about the 23s coach's situation today and revealed that Corberan had already turned down management opportunities to help Leeds escape the second tier.

“I actually asked myself directly to Marcelo if we could have him involved in first-team squad to create more cohesion between the under-23s and first team, and I think it was a very good idea because I think we have proven the co-management creates more opportunities to players like Jamie Shackleton, Jordan Stevens, Ian Poveda, Pascal Struijk," he said.

“We have seen many other players join the first team during these two years and this is a consequence of my request.

“At the same time I understand the ambition of Carlos, already last year he had some opportunities to leave to become a first team coach. I asked him to stay a year because we had an unfinished job. He did stay and I think now he needs have the credit to enjoy this success, his hard work every day. I know how much Carlos works."

If this is the end of Corberan's time at Elland Road, Radrizzani feels a move into senior management has been earned.

“I think now it is good if he can take his own way, his own path, and start a new journey to build himself as a first-team coach. He deserves it," said the owner.
