Here, we round-up the winners and losers from another action-packed few days in the second-tier.
Scroll and click through the pages to see which teams, managers and players shone and struggled over the weekend:
1. L: Birmingham City
THIRTEEN games without a win means the Blues head into their final game with Derby in the relegation picture. Will Birmingham have to rely on Wigan’s potential points deduction to survive?” No. You can’t be thinking about that,” said caretaker boss Steve Spooner. Photo: Ross Kinnaird
2. W: Patrick Schmidt (Barnsley)
Barnsley were seconds away from relegation to League One, only for Schmidt to pop up with the winner in the third minute of injury time versus Nottingham Forest. It’ll still be a tough ask on the final day as they’ll need to beat Brentford, but Gerhard Struber believes “100%” the Tykes can survive. Photo: Lewis Storey
3. L: Preston North End
Although Preston claimed a 2-0 victory at home to Birmingham, results elsewhere confirmed Alex Neil’s side narrowly missed out on the play-offs for a third season in a row. Neil admits it’s “painful” but also called for perspective. Photo: Alex Livesey
4. W: Ryan Tafazolli (Hull City)
The Tigers are on the brink of playing in League One next season for the first time since 2005 but one player who does deserve some kind of credit is Tafazoll. As fans protested outside the KCOM after the Luton Town defeat, the defender admirably acted as peacemaker. Photo: Ashley Allen
5. L: Danny Cowley (Huddersfield Town)
Two days after securing their Championship status following a 2-1 win over 2nd place West Brom, Huddersfield announced the shock news that Cowley had been relieved of his duties. And, to make matters worse, Karlan Grant is set to leave for £15m. Leeds coach Carlos Corberan is favourite to take over. Photo: George Wood
6. W: West Brom
Slaven Bilic and his players must have felt like the luckiest men in the world this weekend after Brentford’s defeat spared their Friday night loss to Huddersfield Town. Somehow, automatic promotion remains in their own hands - but will there be one final twist? Photo: Nathan Stirk
