Ajax 4-0 Leeds United - recap: Whites well beaten as Amsterdam friendly double-header comes to close

The Whites have made a flying visit to the Netherlands as part of the club's final preparations for the upcoming 2021/22 Premier League campaign.

A Leeds XI - watched by head coach Marcelo Bielsa and owner Andrea Radrizzani - took on Ajax's youngsters at the De Toekomst training complex this afternoon.

United fell to a 3-1 defeat against their hosts earlier today and will now face the senior side this evening with kick-off set for 7.15pm UK time.

Welcome to part two of Leeds United’s double-header with Dutch giants Ajax.

The Whites fell to a 3-1 defeat to Ajax’s youngsters this afternoon as they fielded an XI mixed with youth an experience.

The rest of Marcelo Bielsa’s squad will now face the senior side this evening in front of 25,000 supporters in Amsterdam.

Early Leeds United team news

So... we have a good idea about those who won’t be involved this evening after this afternoon’s game at the De Toekomst training complex.

Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper were given a first run out of pre-season against the Dutch side’s youngsters.

There were also minutes for Helder Costa, Adam Forshaw, Ian Poveda and Tyler Roberts.

Youngsters Crysencio Summerville and Sam Greenwood were also called upon among a few others from Thorp Arch’s academy ranks.

Unless Bielsa opts to push his senior players, there’s a strong chance that none of the above will be in tonight’s squad to face Ajax’s first team.

We will have to wait and see for certain with team news out at around 6.15pm.

Leeds United: Meslier, Shackleton, Ayling, Struijk, Dallas, Koch, Klich, Raphinha, Harrison, Rodrigo, Bamford.

Subs: Klaesson, Jenkins, McCarron, Roberts, Costa, Summerville.

Klaesson in squad for first time

There’s a spot on the bench for new singing Kristoffer Klaesson this evening.

United have also filled the bench with a number of players who featured for 45 minutes earlier this afternoon.

The starting line-up for the Whites is among the strongest available to Bielsa tonight.

There’s no Diego Llorente - who hobbled off against Real Betis - while Liam Cooper and Kalvin Phillips miss out after picking up minutes earlier today.

He has made two appearances for Leeds in pre-season so far.

45 minutes against Blackburn Rovers and Real Betis.

He is, though, absent from tonight’s squad it seems. The former Barcelona man is missing with a minor knock and has been left out as a precaution.
