'Abysmal, Take over will you' - Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford is hot topic after England stalemate
LEEDS United striker Patrick Bamford was the name on many people's lips following England's drab stalemate against Scotland.
Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate opted to leave Whites no 9 Bamford out of his Euros squad despite the Whites striker netting 17 goals during the 2020-21 Premier League campaign.
Bamford proved the season's second highest scoring Englishman behind only Tottenham's England captain Harry Kane who was selected as one of just two natural centre forward options for the Euros alongside Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
But Kane has failed to fire in England's first two games of the summer's major international tournament and the Spurs striker was substituted for a second consecutive game in Friday's goalless draw against Scotland as Manchester United's Marcus Rashford was given a go in the no 9 role.
England's fortunes failed to improve and the omission of Bamford prove a hot topic on social media.
Here are some of the posts that were provided.
"This England team is crying out for one player. Patrick Bamford. Kane has been absolutely abysmal in both games so far, at least Bamford works for the team and causes the defenders to think a bit. Kane has just been standing around offering nothing. #EUROS2020 #ENGSCO #lufc" - Matt Wortley - @mattywortley
"This is why you don’t leave Bamford at home. I’m not comparing him to Kane, but the guy is offering nothing up top today. Doesn’t want the ball, and no urgency. Bamford would be chasing everything down and getting this team moving. #ENGSCO #ENG #LUFC" - Karun Jung - @JournoJung
"@Carra23 Thought of England Striking option when Kane not firing. There is DCL who form tailed off and no assist this season. Rashford not really a CF better out wide. Yet England leave #lufc Bamford very intense striker with 17 goals and 7 assists didn’t make big squad #ENGvSCO" - Craig Hewitt @cjlufc
"Should’ve put Bamford in the squad - stepped up in the premier league could’ve done it in the Euros! #ThreeLions #ENGSCO #lufc @Patrick_Bamford" - sara - @lovjm8

"Harry Kane offers nothing once again. Makes you think, is he injured or is he just lazy? Either way, he's taking up a position in this England squad where Bamford could do a much better job. #lufc #ENGSCO" - MAX (C) - @max_leach
"Bamford and Watkins didn't get picked and we are relying on Kane to score who isn't performing at all. #EnglandvsScotland #lufc" - James Rodgers - @James_Rodgers1
