LEEDS United's ongoing new partnership with Greenpeace has seen the club's fans raise £30,000 to help protect the Amazon Rainforest.

United announced a new partnership with Greenpeace back in June which resulted in the global environmental organisation’s logo adorning the front of all junior replica Leeds United shirts.

For each replica shirt purchased, a £5 donation is made to the Greenpeace Environmental Trust, which is used in a campaign to protect rainforests.

And now the initiative has passed the £30,000 marker in terms of funds raised, with United executive director Paul Bell thrilled with the success of the partnership established earlier in the summer.

The Amazon is one of the world’s most vital ecosystems but 19 per cent of the Rainforest has been lost since 1970 to deforestation and industrial development.

Bell said: “We are delighted with the partnership with Greenpeace, they are one of the most important and iconic charities across the globe and for our fans to have generated £30,000 already is great news.

”I am sure as we approach Christmas and head into 2017 with the renewed air of optimism the manger and the team have brought Elland Road, we will see that figure grow and grow.”

Karen Rothwell, Greenpeace UK fundraising director, said: “The level of support from Leeds United fans has been fantastic.

“Their generosity so far has raised a total of £30,000 and this will have a big impact in helping protect the Amazon Rainforest from the many threats it faces.

“This is one of the world’s most biodiverse and pristine habitats, home to one in 10 of all known species on earth including many endangered ones.

“We have a duty to protect such a natural wonder for future generations, so it’s just right that these young Leeds fans are helping us achieve that.”
