But fellow midfielder Ronaldo Vieira is back in the squad after his recent knee problems while new left back Laurens De Bock is in line to make his Whites debut after signing from Club Brugge.

Forshaw joined Leeds from United’s Championship rivals Middlesbrough on Thursday for a deal worth £4.5m with the 26-year-old penning terms at the Whites on a four-and-a-half year deal.

De Bock, though, who joined the Whites last week from Brugge, will be in the match-day squad having missed last weekend’s 1-0 loss at Ipswich Town while the left back sorted out some family affairs back in Belgium.

Vieira is also back having missed United’s last four games with a knee problem leaving Caleb Ekuban and Luke Ayling as United’s only injuries though both Samu Saiz and Eunan O’Kane are also suspended.

Striker Ekuban will need two or three or more weeks to recover from fracturing a bone in his foot while right back Ayling is out for the rest of the season having undergone surgery to correct cartilage damage to an ankle injury.

No 10 playmaker Saiz serves the second game of six-match ban handed to him for being red carded after spitting at Newport County’s Robbie Willmott in this month’s 2-1 loss in the FA Cup third round while midfielder O’Kane begins a three-match suspension for being sent off during last weekend’s loss at Ipswich for headbutting Jonas Knudsen.

Fellow midfielder Kalvin Phillips is also one yellow card away from landing a two-match ban for picking up ten cautions.

Providing an update on his team news at Friday afternoon’s pre-Millwall press conference at Elland Road, Christiansen said: “Laurens will be in the squad for the game and Adam will need a little bit more time.

“It was not a question to have him in.

“There were some physical conditions behind it. We have some small problems but small.

“We have only one (other) player out and this is Ekuban and he will still have two or three weeks.”

Asked about the condition of Vieira, Christiansen said: “Perfect. He is in good condition so we will see. He is also in the squad list.
