Swiss international full back Berardi injured his hamstring in United’s season opener at Queens Park Rangers, with the defender told to expect up to six weeks out following a scan.

The 28-year-old remains sidelined but Whites head coach Garry Monk has revealed the defender is now “seven to ten days” away from returning to training.

Berardi aside, Monk has no suspensions or injury worries, with Pontus Jansson, Eunan O’Kane and Stuart Dallas having all returned unscathed from international duty with Sweden, the Republic Of Ireland and Northern Ireland respectively.

“Everyone is fit and the only one that remains is Berra,” said Monk, speaking at Thursday afternoon’s Thorp Arch press conference.

“But he is only a short period away now from going back into training.

“Apart from that, it’s a fully fit squad.”

Asked for a rough timescale for Berardi’s return, Monk revealed: “He should be about another seven days - seven to ten days.

“We are looking more towards the seven days in terms of him being back into training so that will be good.

“It will be good to have him back on the training field.

“He’s already out there doing the physical work but for actually being back into the training with the first team with that group, it will be probably about another seven days.”
