Pat-trick Bamford stakes claim

Three months on from picking up a knee ligament injury that threatened to end his season Leeds United's marquee summer signing was making one of his former sides pay.

Six first-team appearances were all that the 25-year-old mustered during a season-long loan at Turf Moor that was cut short by parent club Chelsea due to a lack of playing time in 2016/17.

Bamford cited a clash of personalities with Burnley boss Sean Dyche as to why his time in Lancashire didn't work out but on Tuesday afternoon with his former manager watching on he showed just how deadly he could be.

All three of his goals that sent him home with the match ball were of real quality whether it was dinking England goalkeeper Tom Heaton or showing a poachers instinct to be in the right place at the right time to convert.

Bamford has made his comeback early and sent a timely reminder to Marcelo Bielsa ahead of the busy Christmas period of his class in front of goal. The former Middlesbrough man may have to once again bide his time with Kemar Roofe in red-hot form having bagged 10 goals already this campaign.

It was Bamford's first competitive start as he steps up his recovery and with United's Head of Medicine and Performance Rob Price watching on he'll have been pleased with what he saw from the forward who looks ready to make the leap back into senior football on a permanent basis.

The tales of two Jack's (and halves)

Manchester City loanee Jack Harrison has found first-team action hard to come by in recent weeks but a dazzling display in the opening 45 minutes in which he was a thorn in the Burnley side will have gone under the radar.

The 22-year-old caused Jordan Cropper, who was playing at right back for the Clarets, a major headache as everything went down the left hand side in the opening half as he linked up with Clarke Oduor before playing Bamford through on goal with a brilliantly weighted pass for the opening Leeds goal.

Harrison will have been pleased by his performance and if Cropper was relieved at the sight of his substitution it would take all of three minutes for him to realise it was about to get a whole lot worse.

Arguably United's brightest talent in Jack Clarke stepped off the bench at the break to wreak even more havoc in the final third as he twisted and turned the Burnley defence inside out. His goal wouldn't have looked out of place at any level of the game as he jinked in and out of three defenders before curling a shot into the far corner of the net just minutes after coming on.

The 18-year-old looked a real threat every time he touched the ball.

Izzy Brown gets more minutes... and a goal

The Chelsea loanee once more stepped up his recovery from a torn ACL as he completed 90 minutes to take a step closer to making his long-awaited Leeds United debut.

Brown looked sharp and up to speed during the afternoon's frantic clash taking his goal well on the half-volley from a Jack Clarke cross.

The 21-year-old is yet to feature in a senior match day squad for Marcelo Bielsa but after coming through another test cannot be far away from Championship action after making his third appearance for Under-23s.

Goals, Goals, Goals

It's not often you get a 6-3 game but that's just what happened on Tuesday afternoon at Barnfield Training Complex.

United's defending was lacklustre at times and three preventable goals were the only negative on a day full of positives for Carlos Corberan.

Leeds cut through Burnley at ease creating chance after chance and certainly could have had more than the six they tallied.

Loanee Lewis Baker also got his name on the scoresheet in what was one of his better displays since joining the club on loan from Chelsea.

Bielsa's first-team philosophy is filtering down into the Under-23s and beyond. Although there were four first-team players on display the rest of Corberan's squad are as much in tune with playing 4-1-4-1 or 3-3-1-3 as the senior squad which was evident and on display in Lancashire.
