Leeds United: There's no time for Baggies friendship, says Tyler Roberts

Leeds United striker Tyler Roberts says he is "excited" to return to The Hawthorns on Saturday evening but admitted it's "not time for friendship" ahead of the Championship clash.

Roberts, who joined United from the Baggies in a deal worth £3million last January, came through the academy ranks in the West Midlands but opted to further his career at Elland Road citing first team opportunity as his main reason with his contract running down.

The 19-year-old though was hit by a foot injury after joining the set up at Thorp Arch which ultimately ruled him out for the remainder of the 2017/18 campaign.

Roberts, who has bagged three goals in seven appearances for his new side this season, says he is now looking forward to returning to familiar ground this weekend but admits he is fully focused on helping the Whites come away victorious.

"I'm excited," Roberts told LUTV about heading back to Albion.

"Obviously it's going to be a bit strange to be back at the club I grew up at. I want to get the win and I'm hungry to score a goal.

"Darren Moore's now the manager, who was my under-23s coach, so a lot of people I know are still there. It'll be nice to see them but it's not time for friendship, it's kind of a rivalry."

Asked about whether it could be a distraction, Roberts replied: "It's more just about the job and getting the three points.

"Obviously the manager is going to want us to do certain things and it's not about being selfish and trying to just score. You're trying to help the team get the three points which is the main thing at the end of the day."

United make the trip to Albion as table-toppers ahead of tomorrow's round of fixtures but the Wales international says Marcelo Bielsa's side will approach the fixture just like they have done for their previous 16 outings.

"It's no different, we'll focus on it during the week of the game, get our tactics together and we'll play as good as we play and hopefully that'll be enough.

"I think both teams will be eager to get the three points to try and stake their claim at the top of the table but I'm positive and I think the way we've been playing we can do that."
