The 17-year-old is understood to have sealed a move to Elland Road tonight and will link up with United’s Under-23s midway through his first season in professional football.

Stevens broke into Forest Green’s senior set up at the start of this term and made his first league start against League Two leaders Luton Town last month.

United are understood to have faced competition from a number of clubs, including some in the Premier League, but have secured Stevens’ signature ahead of today’s 11pm January deadline.

The Elland Road club have embarked on a major recruitment drive at academy level this season and Stevens is the fifth permanent addition to Carlos Corberan’s Under-23 squad this month.

The teenaeger was left out of Forest Green’s squad for their 2-0 defeat to Exeter City tonight.
