Blackman is expected to undergo a medical and finalise a move in time to feature in United’s first pre-season friendly at Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday with the terms of his switch to Elland Road now in place.

Leeds have been in discussions over Blackman’s signature for the past two weeks having seen prior interest in Angus Gunn and David Stockdale come to nothing.

The club began looking for a new number one since the start of the transfer window after deciding to replace Felix Wiedwald and Blackman is returning to the Championship following a year on loan at Sheffield United last season.

The 24-year-old made a total of 33 appearances, helping Sheffield United finish 10th in the Championship. Chelsea see him as a potential future number one but were willing to loan him out again with Blackman behind the highly experienced pair of Thibaut Courtois and Willy Caballero at Stamford Bridge.

Blackman is in line to become Leeds’ second new arrival of the transfer window, a fortnight after midfielder and fellow Chelsea academy product Lewis Baker signed on a season-long loan.

United have Bailey Peacock-Farrell on the books but were short of keepers having allowed Wiedwald to join Eintracht Frankfurt and terminated the remainder of Andy Lonergan’s contract.
