Leeds United to refund fans after LUTV glitches

Leeds United have apologised and promised to refund supporters following problems with the streaming of pre-season friendlies on the club's online television station LUTV.

United are preparing to pay back money spent on live broadcasts of last week’s games at York City and Southend United after a flurry of complaints about the quality and reliability of their coverage.

Plans to televise forthcoming friendlies against Oxford United, Guiseley and Las Palmas have been scrapped as a result.

Fans were charged £3.99 for individuals fixtures and offered a package which covered all six of their summer matches at a cost of £14.99.

Leeds, whose owner Andrea Radrizzani made his money in sports broadcasting and has recently embarked on a rapid acquisition of rights for his own network Eleven Sports, blamed the issues on a change to the “method of broadcasting” used to show Championship games to supporters based abroad last season.

In a statement, the club said: “Following feedback from our supporters, the club would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any issues experienced on LUTV during our opening pre-season friendly games.

“Unfortunately we have encountered sporadic technical problems with the suppliers we have used to broadcast our pre-season fixtures.

“The method of broadcasting these ties is different to how we have successfully streamed games internationally during the 2017-18 season and we will be returning to these methods from the start of the new campaign.

“Accordingly we will not be streaming the games with Oxford United, Guiseley or Las Palmas and full refunds will be automatically processed for all those supporters who have purchased the bundle package.

“We will also offer refunds to anyone who bought individuals streams for York City and Southend United and experienced issues.”
