Bridcutt hobbled off after 49 minutes of the Championship clash with Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road on September 13 and has missed United’s next 11 games since.

The midfielder will also be absent for Sunday’s Championship hosting of Newcastle United - along with Pablo Hernandez who has a hamstring injury - but Bridcutt is due to resume training with the Whites next week.

Leeds will subsequently be without two key midfielders for the Elland Road showdown with the Magpies - but Monk says he has full confidence in his squad as a whole, with youngsters Ronaldo Vieira and Kalvin Phillips in particular shining of late in the middle of the park.

Liam Bridcutt is obviously still out but he should be back out on the grass with us next week,” said Monk.

“I have used all of them (players and they have all contributed to the season so far and everyone understands whenever they are called upon what they have to do and what their role is.

“It’s about trusting your players - I trust all of these young players and the experiences they are gaining - and this is another situation on Sunday that they will face that will be another good experience for them.

“The key is to come through them, understand the experience and take it forward to the next game and keep improving which they are doing at the moment which is really pleasing to see.”
