United, who went behind on six minutes following a Reece James free-kick, came back to grab all three points for this first time under Marcelo Bielsa after conceding the opener.

Leeds returned to the top of the table thanks to goals from Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe which saw the turnaround complete in the 46th minute thanks to a mix-up at the back for the hosts.

“Leeds are a good side,” McManaman told the club's official website. “Probably the best we have played, but I think it is at least a point dropped having been 1-0 up.

“I did well to turn their defender for my chance and get a yard in the box but with the angle I had to try and put it in the top corner and with putting pace on it I overhit it a little bit."

Despite Wigan boss Paul Cook admitting that his side were a little short midfielder McManaman believed the Latics to be good enough for a point following the contest.

“We were just talking in there saying we haven’t deserved to lose our last three but we don’t want to become that team that is unlucky all the time; we need to start turning defeats into draws,” he added.

“I think we have either won or lost in most games this season, so if we had nicked a few draws away and in games like today then we’d be in the play-offs. It’s fine margins.”
