Leeds United: Monk shrugs off comparison with Whites legendary boss Revie

Revie boasted a win rate of 53.4 per cent from his 395 victories in 740 games in charge of Leeds between March 1961 and July 1974 – the best by any Leeds boss. In considerably fewer games and at a lower level, Monk’s win rate already stands at 53.3 per cent, with 24 victories from his 45 games in charge since June 2016. Victory at Championship hosts Reading tomorrow evening would take Monk’s win-rate higher than Revie’s. But Monk knows Revie’s record is a totally different entity given the legendary manager’s hugely successful reign, which included two Inter-Cities Fairs Cup triumphs, two First Division Championships and one success each in the FA Cup, League Cup and Charity Shield. Revie’s Whites were also runners-up in one European Cup final, one Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final and three FA Cup finals.

“I don’t think you can put me and Don Revie in the same sentence to be honest,” said Monk. “But it’s great and all that means is that the team is going in the right way, the club is going in the right direction and it’s positive news for everyone.

“It shows that we are united, we are together and we trying to push the club into the right direction.”
