Leeds picked up ten points from a possible 15 in October and also knocked high-flying Norwich City out of the EFL Cup on penalties, despite playing the whole of extra time with ten men.

The Whites enjoyed league victories at home to Barnsley and Burton Albion and also won at Wolves, whilst only an injury-time equaliser prevented a fourth league win for the month in a 1-1 draw at home to Wigan.

United’s only defeat in October came in a 1-0 loss at Derby County.

But Monk faces stiff competition for the award having been nominated alongside Newcastle United’s Rafa Benitez, Brighton’s Chris Hughton and Preston North End’s Simon Grayson.

Newcastle, who are top of the league and visit Elland Road a week on Sunday, won six games out of six in October - five in the league and one in the EFL Cup.

Brighton, who sit second, were also unbeaten throughout the month.

The winner will be announced on Friday.
