Leeds United: Klitch pledges to help the Whites back to the top

The 27-year-old – who says he is a creative midfielder – also declared he was “not afraid to fight” to help the cause of the Whites.

Klich has joined Leeds from Dutch club FC Twente with the Pole penning a three-year-deal at United for a fee believed to be around £1.5m.

The midfielder made 29 appearances for the Eredivisie side last season, scoring six times and creating six assists to help the Enschede team to seventh.

But within minutes of putting pen to paper at Elland Road on Friday, the six-foot Pole insisted there was more to more his game than creative flair with the midfielder determined to take Leeds to the Premier League at his first attempt.

The Tarnów-born footballer arrives at Leeds following spells in Poland, Germany and Holland having played for Cracovia, VfL Wolfsburg, PEC Zwolle, FC Kaiserslautern and Twente.

“The target is Premier League, of course, for Leeds,” Klich told the YEP.

“Everyone is talking about so it would be nice to achieve it.

“Of course that is the dream but it is going to be difficult.

“It is a long season with a lot of games but that is the target.If we can achieve it, I don’t know, but we will see.”

Klich was being pursued by a number of clubs following his strong season for FC Twente who signed the midfielder from FC Kaiserslautern on a three-year-deal last summer.

The Pole had been on United’s radar for some time and Middlesbrough – managed by former Whites head coach Garry Monk – also attempted to sign Klich before his switch to Leeds.

The new recruit joins a club not short of midfielders but Klich says he can offer Leeds a creative flair whilst also rolling his sleeves up for the Championship heat of the battle.

Klich explained: “I am more of a creative midfielder but of course I am not afraid to fight and I will give 100 per cent on the pitch for the three points and for the win in games.

“I can play good football and I can create some good stuff on the pitch.”

The midfield man has been capped 10 times by the Polish national side and came on as a 45th-minute substitute in the 2-0 loss to England at Wembley in a World Cup Qualifier in October, 2013.

The new Whites recruit began his professional career at Polish club KS Cracovia before moving on in 2011 to German side Vfl Wolfsburg, who sold the midfielder to Dutch outfit PEC Zwolle in 2013. After moving back to Wolfsburg in 2014, Klich signed for fellow German club FC Kaiserslautern in January 2015 before making the switch to Twente last summer.

The new Whites signing is now set to become the first ever Pole to play for Leeds in a competitive game.

Tomasz Razza, another pole, played for the club in a friendly against Darlington 2004.

Asked for his first impressions of Leeds and Elland Road, Klich beamed: “I am really happy to sign here.

“It’s a big club, with great fans and I am just really looking forward to playing here.

“My first impressions of the club are really good.

“The stadium is really nice, it has a really English style in the sense that everything is really close and I am really looking forward to playing in the stadium with the atmosphere.

“Everything so far is good.”

The central midfielder’s arrival follows the permanent signing of winger Hadi Sacko whose loan move from Sporting Lisbon was turned into a permanent deal earlier this month.

Leeds continue to be linked with a host of names and the agent of Spanish midfielder Samuel Saiz has confirmed that the Whites are among the clubs competing for his signature.

Saiz’s representative, Juan Moreno, said Leeds were in the running with “Premier League clubs in Spain” to strike a deal for the Huesca number 10.

Saiz is at the centre of much transfer speculation after a strong season in Spain’s second division and he was close to joining Eibar before Leeds made their interest in him known.

Saiz would offer more attacking threat than Klich, providing an alternative to Pablo Hernandez who occupied the number 10 role for Leeds last term and recently secured a 12-month extension to his deal at Elland Road.

Eibar are continuing to vie for Saiz’s signature and Real Betis, Las Palmas and Alaves are also fighting to take him from Huesca.

The 26-year-old’s deal at Huesca runs to June 2018.

Moreno told the YEP: “Samuel has a firm (interest) from Leeds United and also other Premier League clubs in Spain.”

He confirmed that Saiz was open to the option of a move to England.
