Leeds United: Former Premier League boss Garry Monk new odds-on favourite

Cellino has been abroad in Italy but flew back to England at the weekend with a view to returning to his Elland Road office before the end of the week.

Top of the Italian’s agenda is appointing the club’s next head coach with the chairman’s moves for Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke and MK Dons manager Karl Robinson both rebuffed during the last seven days.

A formal approach was made to Rovers to speak to Clarke who instead opted to sign a new three-year deal with the side who have just been promoted to League One.

Steve Evans remains the current head coach of United but the Glaswegian’s deal expires on June 30 and the 53-year-old’s future looks in massive doubt with Cellino approaching other managers.

And former Swansea boss Monk is now an odds-on favourite to be the next Whites head coach with Leeds firm Sky Bet who have cut the 37-year-old’s odds to 4-5, though a whole host of individuals have already been odds-on for the post.

Former Swan centre-back Monk was appointed player manager of the Welsh club in February 2014 following the sacking of Michael Laudrup.

The former defender guided the club to Premier Division survival, followed by an eighth-placed finish the following season with a record points tally.

Monk then signed a new three-contract in July 2015 but was sacked just five months later after a run of one win in 11 league games.

Whites chairman Cellino has vowed to refund at least 25 per cent of the cost of all season tickets bought before the May 31 deadline should United fail to reach the play-offs.

That refund will rise to 50 pent should the club sell 15,000 season tickets by the end of July and by Tuesday morning the club had already sold in excess of 12,200 with Leeds hoping to already pass the 12,500 total sold last term by the close of play.

United will refund 50 per cent of the cost of season tickets bought on or before May 31 should the Whites sell 15,000 or more by the end of July.
