Leeds United: Antonsson "focused" on Blackburn Rovers with Whites future up in the air

The 26-year-old has a year left to run on his current Whites contract and was deemed surplus to requirements by former boss Thomas Christiansen at the beginning of the current campaign.

Antonsson has featured 30 times for Rovers this season scoring eight goals in the process.

The Swede though, who has featured as a striker and winger for Tony Mowbray's side, says he remains completely focused on the task of winning promotion back to the Championship with the Lancashire club with his Elland Road future in doubt.

“I want to focus on the last seven games here to win promotion with Blackburn and after that I can focus on what is going to happen next year," Antonsson told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“It’s been very good for me. Playing games in a team that’s winning games most weeks is unbelievable and I’m happy so far.

“It’s enjoyable playing in this team, I’m enjoying every single minute and it’s so nice to be up the top of the league, pushing for promotion. But there are seven games to go and we really need to push in every game.”

Antonsson has featured for Leeds on just 10 occasions since arriving in West Yorkshire from Kalmar FF nearly two years ago, scoring his only goal for the club in a 2-0 victory over Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield Wednesday in 2016.

The forward won the PFA’s League One player-of-the-month award last November in a campaign in which he has enjoyed a lot of first-team football and when quizzed about whether he'd like to remain in England even if it was away from Elland Road the answer was a resounding yes.

“To play football in England is an honour and for me that’s the place to be as a footballer," added Antonsson.

“It’s perfect, the passion from the fans and the quality in the games. I love playing in England and hopefully I can do that for many years.”
