Leeds Sunday League Summer League: West Leeds Armley set pace after hitting Farnley for six

Ten grassroots teams have signed up for a season of summer football which will last nine weeks followed by play-offs.

West Leeds Armley immediately put themselves top of the pile as hat-tricks from Scott Carvell and Sam Russell slammed West Leeds Farnley 6-0.

West Leeds Bramley also enjoyed an opening-day victory as they saw off Wortley Knights 3-1. Two goals from Kurtis Heyes and one from Dean Last did the trick for Bramley with Knights responding through an Adam Clarke penalty.

Horsforth Fairweather were the only other side to pick up three points as Western Juniors were seen off 2-1.

Halifax-based Awais Ashfaq gave Western an early lead but Fairweather levelled through Kev Hoyle and then secured victory through a Kieran Emmett own goal.

The Horsforth side featured 46-year-old, 500-game veteran Lee Monaghan, stepping out alongside his 17-year-old son, Lee, in the duo’s first competitive match together.

Bramley Town and East Leeds shared a 2-2 draw with Ollie Maude at the double for Easts who were denied by Bramley goals from Scott Barlow and Marc Wilson.

West Leeds Wortley and Northern Star drew 1-1 with Jordan Webb and Danny Roberts netting respectively.
