Leeds Sunday League Summer League 12/16: Farnley respond in style

WEST Leeds Farnley responded to an opening day humbling with a 7-0 defeat of West Leeds Bramley in the second week of the Leeds Sunday Summer League, writes Tom Harle.

Farnley were hammered 6-0 by West Leeds Armley in week one but braces from Jay Davis and Aaron Batley plus goals from Gaz Lee and Johnny Hall saw them blitz Bramley, who beat Wortley Knights in week one. Armley, who battered Farnley on day one with trebles from Shane Collins and Sam Russell plus a clean sheet from Scott Carvell, lost 8-3 to West Leeds Wortley who had drawn at Northern Star. Liam Copland, Jordan O’Brian, Jordan Webb and Mark Ferguson all notched twice for Wortley while Armley replied through Brandon Stuart, Jordan Tate and Nathan Chadwick.

After drawing with Bramley Town, East Leeds sit top after smashing Wortley Knights 9-0, Ollie Maude hitting four. Paul Cuthbertson added a brace with Nicky McGreavy, Terry Palmer and Ben Maude also netting. Wortley’s team had an average age of just 22 with Liam Sharp excelling at 17. Western Juniors, who lost 2-1 at Horsforth Fairweather, blew away a depleted Northern Star 10-1 as Steven Palfrey and Patrick Sheeran hit five and four, respectively. Mike Brown also netted for Western as Josh Charlesworth struck for Star.

Bramley Town shared a 3-3 draw with Horsforth Fairweather. Horsforth led through James Thorp but needed a late Kev Hoyle penalty and Olly Roper strike to salvage a point.
