Leeds Sunday League: On-song Richmond Hill give top dogs mountain to climb in cup

Following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, Fforde led 3-1 in extra-time through a Dave Allinson double and Hassan Ahmed strike but Richmond forced a shoot-out with goals from Dave Newsome, James Cowlam and Aaron Dix.

But Fforde then squeezed through with a 4-2 success on penalties to book an Easter Sunday final at Bracken Edge where they will face East End Park WMC who were 4-0 victors against Harehills WMC.

Lee Fowler’s double was supported by strikes from Joel Hutchinson and Ben Olbison.

In the Championship, Kirkstall Crusaders maintained their 100 per cent record with a 6-1 cruise at bottom club The Woodcock. A Joel Hughes hat-trick, Martin Loveridge double and Kyle Wilcock strike brought up the half dozen before Chris Ward’s late consolation.

Second-bottom Western Juniors were denied a second league win of the season as fourth-bottom visitors Halfway House Bramley hit a late leveller in a 4-4 draw. Daniel Keenaghan and Chris Evans hit doubles for Juniors but strikes from Joe Penman, Andy Fields and Luke Tibble earned the visitors a dramatic point.

In the Presidents’ Trophy, East Leeds Celtic guaranteed a top two finish in Group B with a 4-3 triumph at home to West Leeds Wortley who drop to second. Two goals from Dale Venables plus one each from Adam Wood and Stephen Johnson saw Celtic triumph, with a Liam Copland brace and Mark Ferguson effort not enough for Wortley. They need to avoid defeat at home to third-placed Halfway House Bramley in their one remaining game to finish in the top two.

In Group A, West Leeds Armley put the gloss on their second-placed finish by edging a 6-4 thriller at home to pointless Bramley Villagers.

Shane Collins stole the show for the winners as he netted a four timer to go with efforts from Sam Russell and Alan White. On target for the Villagers were Matty Lofthouse, Mo Ishaq and Lev Macsay.
