Leeds Sunday League: Point helps faltering Farnley steady the relegation ship

Krystian Jaworksi, for home side Harehills, scored in the first half, however Farnley’s Aaron Batley equalised to level the playing field in the top flight of the Leeds Sunday League.

West Leeds Farnley are fighting at the bottom of the table, whilst Harehills sit a place above with five points.

Farnley face first-place Chapeltown this weekend in a battle that will either see the top side nine points clear at the top or Farnley gain an all-important three points that will lift from the wrong end of the table.

In the Championship, first-place West Leeds Wortley beat local rivals West Leeds Armley in a 5-3 win at home.

Goals for third-place Armley came from Shane Collins, Sam Russell and Cody Doyle, whilst Geordie Rosendale scored two for the home side followed by Mark Ferguson, Jordan Webb and Adam Butterworth sealing the win for Wortley.

Fifth-place Halfway House Bramley beat Bramley Villagers 3-2, a side that are narrowly below them with nine points in sixth. A double for Joe Penman and a goal from Andy Fields secured the win for Halfway House Bramley, although only a point separates the two sides in the league.

A goal from Matty Christopher and an own goal from the home team were the only two for the Villagers.

Premier Division East End Park WMC won 2-0 away at Championship side Woodcock in the Hope Leeds United Members Cup.

Ben Olbison and Joel Hutchison put two away for East End Park, to seal the victory over bottom-of-the-league Woodcock.

In the Barrass Cup, top of the table Chapeltown Fforde Grene enjoyed an emphatic 5-2 win away to mid-table Richmond Hill.

Both Premier sides had a good go, however Richmond were no match for what is now Chapeltown’s first team who are six points clear in first place in the league.

Kieron Goodison scored a brace for the away side, followed by Hassan Ahmed, Kane Blair and Phill Allinson making it five for Chapeltown.

The reply from Richmond came from Nathan Swires and Kieron Evans.

The two sides face each other again in a few weeks’ time to see if Richmond can come away with a few more goals.

Elsewhere on Sunday, two Leeds Sunday League sides progressed on Leeds FA Sunday Jubilee Cup duty, with East Leeds Celtic 3-1 winners at Bramley Town.

Kirkstall Crusaders are also into the last four after a 4-0 triumph at Wortley Knights.
