Leeds Sunday League: Fforde fire in six to go six clear at the summit

Leeds Snday League Championship action from West Leeds Armley.

Kieron Goodison added another three goals to his impressive tally while other strikes came from Semir Ahmed, Hassen Ahmed and Tnique Fishley.

The Fforde side had been the Chapeltown club’s reserve side but are now the outfit’s flag bearers following the resignation of Grene’s first team from the Leeds Combination League, of which they were defending champions.

Luke Henshaw netted the Farnley goal which did in fact give them the lead with the visitors hitting back by netting four first half goals.

Farnley remain bottom of the pile but they have three games in hand on second-bottom Harehills WMC, who are only three points above them.

Elsewhere in the top flight, third-placed Richmond Hill were 4-0 away winners over second-placed East End Park WMC.

Ashley Hubbard, Nathan Swires, James Cowlam and Chris Hitchings bagged the all important goals.

Championship leaders East Leeds Celtic slipped up at home to visitors Halfway House Bramley in a contest that ended all square at 4-4.

Kurtis Heyes and Aaron Storke both hit braces for the Bramley side.

A double from Joe Phillips plus a goal each from James Banner and Carlos Simoes ensured Celtic at least got a share of the spoils.

West Leeds Wortley have moved level on points with leaders East Leeds after their convincing 10-1 win over lowly placed hosts Western Juniors.

Mark Ferguson was in excellent scoring form for the winners as he netted five times.

There was also a hat-trick for Liam Copland to go with efforts from Jordan Webb and Jordan O’Brien.

Celtic lead the way on goal difference but have played one game more.

Kirkstall Crusaders have played fewer games than the top two but they maintained their 100 per cent record with a 6-2 away win over Bramley Villagers. Recent signing Mark Whittam was in top form with a hat-trick with Kyle Wilcock, with a brace, and Martin Loveridge also scoring.

The Villagers’ reply came from Sam Brook and Matty Christopher.

West Leeds Armley were also 6-2 winners, at home against the bottom club Woodcock, with Craig Mullaney netting a hat-trick.

Danny Heyhirst chipped in with a couple with Aaron Robinson making up the winners goal tally. Dylan Peace and Shawn Gill netted the consolation goals for Woodcock.
