Leeds Sunday League: East End Park win battle of the Clubmen

The battle of the Clubmen went the way of East End Park WMC who ran out narrow 3-2 winners over neighbours Harehills WMC.

It was East End Park that went ahead with a goal from Terry Tomlinson but Harehills got back on level terms with a goal from Trevor Johnson.

Another Tomlinson goal sent East End Park ahead at the interval.

Tomlinson completed his hat-trick to put East End Park in the driving seat. There was a late goal from Kieran Milnes but that was the end of the scoring with East End Park on their way to the semi-finals.

The other quarter-final was also a close game with West Leeds Wortley just coming out on top against local rivals West Leeds Armley.

The winners had two goals each from Jordan Webb and Matthew Wheeldon to take them into the semis.

The Armley goals came from Stephen Quinn (2) and Ryan McQuade.

There was one game in the President’s Trophy group stages and it produced a rare event in local football a 0-0 draw between Bramley Villages and AFC Woodcock.

A Jamie Kerrigan penalty was good enough to give Richmond Hill three welcome points from a home victory over the bottom club West Leeds Farnley in the Terry Pears Premier Division.

In the Championship Division, Halfway House Bramley and Western Juniors served up an eight-goal thriller with the Bramley side coming out 5-3 winners after Western had gone into a 2-0 lead.

Luke Tibble (2), Danny Priestley, James Normington and Andy Fields getting the all-important goals.

Chris Evans (2) and Rhys Lloyd were the Western goal scorers.

Kirkstall Crusaders and East Leeds Celtic made it an all Leeds Sunday League final after their respective semi-final victories in the Leeds and District FA Jubilee Cup.

The Crusaders were 3-0 away winners over FC Horsforth Saints with goals coming from Anthony Williamson, Ash Thompson and Martin Loveridge.

East Leeds were also away winners but in a closer contest.

Goals from Joe Phillips and James Banner giving them a 2-1 victory with Prince Mujuru taking the Man of the Match for the winners.

The final will take place on Thursday, April 21 at the Yorkshire Amateur Ground, Bracken Edge with a 7.30pm kick-off.
