Leeds Combination: The Woodcock are ruffling high flyers' feathers

A host of Combination sides were on County Sunday Cup or County Sunday Trophy duty with no games taking place in the Jubilee Premier and only one match played in the second tier. That clash saw third-placed The Woodcock bag a half dozen at home to bottom side East End Park with braces from Timmy Smith and Connor Archer supported by strikes from Luke Cook and Danny Alcock.

Aiden Slade scored a brace in vain for East End Park but The Woodcock are now level on points with second-placed East Leeds Celtic and six behind leaders FC Armley and with a game in hand on both.

Defeat leaves East End Park marooned at the bottom of the table having shipped in 54 goals in their 12 fixtures so far.

FC Armley were awarded three points without even playing via a home walkover against second-bottom Harehills WMC. Seventh-placed Moortown Albion were also given a home walkover against third-bottom Swillington Welfare.

There were plenty of interesting fixtures in Division One with the most enthralling viewing coming at top-of-the-table Acorn who entertained second-placed Bardsey.

Goals from Eddie Clayton, Lewis Hindley, Tom Franklin and Jordan Deacey sealed a 4-2 win for Bardsey that saw them leapfrog their hosts to first place in the league.

Oulton Athletic claimed their third win of the campaign with an impressive 4-2 win away to Northern Star. Kieran Dieghan and Atal Habibi scored for The Star but their strikes were cancelled out by goals from Phil Negelein, Shaun Stead, Ricky White and Liam Atkinson.

Temple and Commercial shared nine goals in their encounter with Chris Jones (2), Anthony Coates, Kyle Jeffrey and Arron Batley scoring for Commercial to seal a hard-fought 5-4 win. In Division Two, Churwell squandered the chance to close the gap on the top two as they fell to a disappointing 3-1 loss away to bottom side Bramley Lions. Ben Bedford scored for Churwell but strikes from Kynan Wrigglesworth, Sam Brook and Tom Welsh ensured The Lions moved above Sporting Pudsey into ninth place.

Defending went out of the window in the tie between Headingley Rovers and Western Juniors, with the game finishing 7-5 in Rovers favour.

Jordan Parkinson claimed the match ball with an impressive hat-trick whilst Michael Evans, Jack Howcroft, Eddie Ralph and Liam Garry completed the goal frenzy for Headingley.

Athletico Bramley made it ten wins from 11 in Division 3 with a 5-1 thumping of New Armley Reserves who grabbed a consolation through Mark Binns.

Mid-table Armley Reserves lost 4-2 at home to Elford who had Hammad Ali, Burham Ahmed, Hassan Pervais and Riyadul Islam to thank for their goals.

Republica Internationale were spanked 7-2 by second-placed Pudsey Athletic. Leeds’ Nerrazurri scored their two goals through Mourad Shoushan and Dan Hickson.

Pudsey shared the goals out amongst James Obank, James Burril, Nick Dent, Danny Richardson, Matt Dickie, Tom Needham and Kingsley Dove.

SUNDAY CUPS

MAIN LINE Social stormed into the last 16 of the West Riding FA County Sunday Cup with a 6-1 success at Horsforth Fairweather which presented a quandary of who should take home the match ball, writes JOHN McNAMARA.

Bradley Francis-White and Sean Jeavons both bagged hat-tricks to notch the half dozen as the Leeds Combination League Jubilee Premier’s fourth-placed side cruised into round four.

New Pudsey also went through with a 4-3 success on penalties at home to Tyersal after a 2-2 draw.

John Mallinson and Luke Kitson had both scored for New Pudsey in regulation time.

FC Horsforth Saints were sent tumbling out through a 12-1 loss at home to Bradford-based side West Bowling while

Bingley-based Crossflatts Village travelled up the River Aire to Kippax and left with a 3-0 win to dump the Leeds Combination side out of the Cup.

From the Wharfedale Triangle League, Keighley Athletic were stung 9-2 by visiting Shepherds while Leeds City Rovers were given a home walkover against Thornton United.

Heavy Woollen League leaders FC Walkers Hounds won 4-2 at Wrose Bull while Mirfield Town hammered visiting Siddal Place 7-0. Navigation, though, were outpointed 5-0 at Mount Pleasant.

In the County Sunday Trophy, Combination Division Two pace setters Old Crooked Clock storm to a 4-0 win over Rawdon as Jamie Davies, Danny Addinall, Ben Milner and Cameron Hardy all struck.

New Inn Whites thrashed visiting Bramley Amateurs 11-1 while Sheepscar also scored a hatful of goals when they battered Kings Cross Park 7-1.

Daniel Sheriffe and Ryan O’Donnell both notched hat-tricks whilst Rhys Sharry completed the scoring for Sheepscar.

Sporting Pudsey firsts had Sam Marshall (2), Jordan Rubain and Farris Emara to thank for their 4-2 win over Amaranth Crossgates Athletic who hit back through Joe Packer and Jack Harris.

There was a tighter affair in the clash between West Yorkshire Falcons and Rodley, with the latter triumphing 3-2.
