Leeds Combination League/Sunday Cups: Brian Edwards' double is in vain for Bramley Town at Main Line Social

MAIN LINE Social were the weekend's big winners in the Leeds Combination League Jubilee Premier as a 5-2 success at home to Bramley Town sent them fourth.

In the only fixture to take place in the top division, a brace from Brian Edwards proved in vain for Bramley.

The Premier Division had twice as many games at the weekend and second-placed East Leeds Celtic will be ruing their inability to close the gap on league leaders Armley.

Adam Derradji’s brace looked to have secured the three points for East Leeds on their visit to The Woodcock.

However, the hosts claimed a share of the spoils thanks to goals from Connor Archer and Adam Butterworth in a 2-2 draw. That result leaves both teams five points behind Armley, who were unable to fulfil their fixture against bottom side East End Park. Moortown Albion leapfrogged Rodley after beating them 2-1. Ryan Sharpe scored Rodley’s only goal while Liam Rennie and Brad White scored the goals for Albion.

Top met bottom in Division One as Bardsey hosted Sporting Pudsey in an enthralling encounter which ended 3-3. Tom Franklin, Leon Walker and Lewis Handley struck for league leaders Bardsey in an expected scoring glut.

However, strikes from Sam Marshall, Josh Pearce and Matthew Durrans helped Sporting Pudsey to only their fourth point of the season. It was an opportunity missed for Bardsey who are now just three points ahead of Acorn having played a game more.

Division Two leaders Old Crooked Clock were in LUTY cup action over the weekend, leaving the league action to the division’s struggling teams. Bramley Lions moved up to eighth place in the league and opened up a six-point gap with bottom side Sporting Pudsey seconds after beating them soundly. A Kynon Wrigglesworth hat-trick, an own goal and strikes from Sam Brook, Lev Macsay and Matty Lofthouse sealed a stunning 7-2 victory for The Lions.

West Yorkshire Falcons and Headingley Rovers remain a point and a place apart after sharing six goals in an entertaining draw. Charlie Connor struck a brace for The Falcons with Joe Egemole adding the other.

A Michael Evans double and a Jack Howcroft strike completed the scoring for Headingley Rovers.

Division Three pace setters Athletico Bramley claimed their 11th win from twelve games over the weekend with a 6-0 rout of mid-table Elford. The chasing pack of Original Oak and New Inn Whites kept the pressure on Bramley though with statement making victories. Firstly Original Oak dismantled West Leeds 8-2 away from home, Jon Harty (5), Jake Donnelly, Jordan Chapman and Zayyd Abdulsalam goals sealed the points for Original Oak. New Inn Whites also won by a six goal margin, dispatching Republica Internationale 7-1 at home. Mourad Shoushan scored for the visitors, who look to have lost their early season momentum. Dominic Cleghorn (2), Joe White, Craig Healey, Joshua Goodwin, Ben Howarth and Dale Orange all got in on the goal scoring action for New Inn Whites.

Athletico Bramley’s lead at the top of Division Three currently stands at 14 points, but the three teams below them have five and six games in hand respectively.

LEEDS CITY ROVERS saw their FA Sunday Cup journey ended through a 3-0 loss at home to Sunderland Southwick, writes LEE SOBOT.

Looking for a place in the last 16 as the last Leeds club standing, Rovers were undone by their Wearside visitors.

Rovers have won every game they have played in the Wharfedale Triangle League Premier Division in which they have six wins out of six.

Bradford Sunday Alliance Football League leaders Crossflatts Village also lost 3-0 at Greenside.

Leeds Combination League outfit New Armley took a notable scalp in the West Riding County FA Sunday Cup third round with a 4-2 success on penalties at Bradford Sunday Alliance Premier Division Champions Olympic after a 2-2 draw.

Mark Ferguson and Elliott McCauley scored against last season’s beaten finalists to take the game to the lottery of spot-kicks, where their side triumphed 4-2.

New Armley will host West Bowling in the fourth round which is the last 16 on Sunday, January 6.

But Colton exited the competition at the same stage after 3-1 loss at home to Salts with a a Jordan Booth strike proving only a consolation.

Hunslet Club’s hosting of holders HT Sports was postponed and the clash will now take place this weekend.

The third round of the West Riding County FA Sunday Trophy was a mixed bag for teams from the Leeds Combination League.

Cook & Bottle turned the screw on Rothwell as they trashed them 9-2 away from home to seal safe passage to the next round of the cup.

Huddersfield-based Deighton were the visitors to Kirkstall Crusaders Academy, who narrowly triumphed 4-3.

Rexhep Ejupi, Faisal Sheikh, James Burgess and Ryan Wilson scored the goals that sealed The Crusaders victory over a highly-fancied Deighton side.

The success booked a trip to Clifton Rangers in round four.

Elsewhere, the eagerly anticipated Leeds Combination League LUTY Cup second round fixture between Old Crooked Clock and True Brit was postponed.
