Leeds Combination League: Wadda on target as City keep run intact

With both the West Riding Sunday Cup and Trophy starting up, a large portion of teams from the Leeds Combination League did not play league football over the weekend.

However, with some teams given byes there was still plenty of action. In the Jubilee Premier Division, Leeds City Rovers kept their 100 per cent record intact as Ams Wadda struck the only goal in the win at JB Celtic.

Against winless Main Line Social, Hope Inn Whites romped to their second win of the season in a 7-1 rout.

Struggling duo West Leeds Wortley and Harehills WMC met in the only Premier Division tie of the weekend and had to settle for a draw despite a brace from WMC’s Krystian Jaworkski.

In Division One, both Pendas Arms and Bramley Town have enjoyed impressive starts to their campaigns, and against Commercial HQ and East Leeds, they were both on the winning side once again.

With Division Two leaders Corpus Christi in action in the cup, West Leeds Armley, South Seacroft and West Yorkshire Falcons all had an opportunity to make pace at the top of the table. South Seacroft and the Falcons took part in a goalless draw, West Leeds Armley ran out 7-2 winners at Acorn Bramley as Jordan Tate struck a hat-trick, Danny Heyhirst netted a brace and Ryan McQuade and Dion Robinson scored one each.

There was another 7-2 result in Division 3B as the two top teams met for the first time this season. Keeping their 100 per cent record intact and inflicting a second defeat on their rivals, Wortley Knights had Alin Gerota to thank as he hit five past East End Park WMC.

Elsewhere in the division, West Leeds Farnley leapfrogged Republica Internationale into fourth place with a 2-1 away win.

In Division 3B, Bramley Villagers secured the result of the weekend as they held second-placed and unbeaten Western Juniors to a thrilling 4-4 draw, whilst Northern Star’s 6-0 rout of West Leeds Bramley saw them win for the second time this season. Both John Charlesworth and Kieran Deighan celebrated hat-tricks.

High-flying Chapeltown Fforde Greene annihilated a poor Original Oak side 14-1 in the standout result of the Sunday Cup first round.

Keren Goodison scored five, but it was Fernando Moke who impressed again with another hat-trick, having found the net in his previous three appearances.

Seacroft WMC put the previous week’s abandonment to bed with a resounding 10-1 win at Black Lion. Dale Dodsworth scored a hat-trick. Amaranth Athletic struggled at home to Barge, losing 7-3 despite a double from Shaf Alem. FC Broadway also struggled at home to higher opposition and though McKenzie O’Rourke and Luke Boyes found themselves on the scoresheet, they fell 5-3 to Colton. Elsewhere, Garforth Sports and Social Club were 5-1 winners against Wellington Westgate, whilst Horsforth Fairweather were granted a home win, after a no show from George Hotel.

It was the Sunday Trophy that saw the main of the action from teams across all divisions.

Phil Jarvis continued his hot run of from with another double for Corpus Christi as they sank Fox & Hounds 3-0.

Faz Emara and Jamie McGougan each got on the scoresheet for Sporting Pudsey, yet still found themselves on the losing side in a 3-2 defeat at FC Queensbury. Halfway and FC Armley needed penalties to settle the affair after an exciting 3-3 draw, and it was Halfway who were spot-on, 3-0.

Adam Jarrett’s four goals were instrumental as Millshaw Park Rangers defeated travelling Beldon Oddies Reserves 9-2, whilst Moortown Albion sank FC Liversedge Open Age 6-0 thanks to doubles from Andy Houlding and Craig Fish, along with one each from Pete Hill and Harry Blackburn.

New Pudsey enjoyed a 10-0 win at Prospect Reserves as James Allen provided the main outlet scoring on five occasions.

Elsewhere there were wins for Swillington Welfare, Kippax Sundays, Pudsey Athletic, Woodcock and New Moorside but Hunslet Parnaby and FC Horsforth Saints were defeated.

In the Mawson Cup, Cameron Cooper scored a hat-trick, Ryan Jennings a brace and Matt Jennings the solitary goal as Temple sank Millshaw Park Rangers Reserves 6-1.
