Leeds Combination League: Rock-solid Halton Moor storm into cup semi-finals

A brace from Daniel Leafe and a goal from Roy Stamer gave a huge boost to Halton’s season. Although James Kitson responded for Belle Isle, Sunday’s comfortable win set up a semi-final tie with Seacroft WMC to be played next month.

In the Jubilee Premier meanwhile, improving HT Sports saw off Pudsey Liberal Club 4-1 at Lawns Lane. Third-placed HT, who remain unbeaten at home and are now three points behind Pudsey with a game in hand, netted twice through Chris Howarth and once through Baz Frankland and Paul Wills, while James Allen replied for Pudsey.

In the top flight’s other game, leaders Hope Inn Whites were given an almighty scare by bottom side Horsforth Fairweather. Steve Skillern scored for the winless hosts, only for Lewis Hindley and Leon Walker to grind out the victory for the league leaders who managed to respond to their 7-1 shellacking by HT Sports with a win.

Queenswood Wanderers sent out a message to the Premier Division by thrashing table-toppers Main Line Social 7-3 at Butcher Hill.

In Queenswood’s fourth successive win, James Hochstrasser put in an individual performance of rare quality in scoring five goals, as Daniel Briscoe and Phil Oniana also notched. It was goals galore at Temple Newsam as Colton beat Hare and Hounds 7-6.

Colton’s strikes came through Ash Bell and Josh Ridgeway, who both got two, Mikey O’Brien, who has scored 18 this season, Eddy Dobson and Ben Clark.

Gavin Crowther and Ollie Hughes netted twice for Hare and Hounds, Dene Dewing and Danny Walker also scoring in a losing cause. Former York City trainee, Kingsley Wetherald, hit four for Whitkirk Wanderers in their 7-3 win at South Leeds Independent.

Reece Brown, Scott Rawson and Jordan Walker scored the visitors, while Martin Ellis hit the hosts’ three.

In Division One, Swillington Welfare dispatched beleaguered bottom club Original Oak 7-0. Thomas Micklethwaite took his season tally to eight with a hat-trick, added to by Danny Jackson’s double and goals from Matthew Marshall and Jamie Scott. Kippax Band Club saw off FC Broadway 2-0 at Leeds Road, Aaron Gray and Richard Jackson with the goals.

Ninth-placed Chapel Allerton defeated eighth-placed Oulton Athletic 2-1 at Potternewton Recreaction.

Jason Watt and Mark Freeman took the hosts to victory over Steve Richardson’s reply.

Division Two leaders Beechwood Sundays piled on the goals at Western Flatts, beating AFC Travellers 9-3.

Nat Welsh, Barry Edwards and Craig McDonagh all netted braces with further goals from Liam Gales, Stephen Cooper and Sean Burton.

Gordon Booth got two and Danny Hurler also scored for the Travellers, who sit third from bottom.

Beechwood’s closest challengers East Leeds AFC dispatched FC West Leeds (Guiseley) 5-1 at Armley Park.

The goals were shared evenly among the second-placed outfit – on a six-game unbeaten run – scored through Terry Palmer, Paul Cuthbertson, Nicky McGreavy, Adam Kerrigan and Jamie Hadland.

Chris Parkin scored the consolation for West Leeds.

When FC West Leeds (Guiseley) Reserves hit their goalscoring stride it’s difficult to stop them, and that’s what Millshaw Park Rangers Reserves found on Sunday in their 8-1 defeat at Moorfield Recreation Ground. West Leeds are mid-table but have scored 10 and 13 goals in recent weeks. Andy Serotski, now in double figures for the season, scored a treble as did Matty Wear alongside Chris Sharkey’s double. Kevin Jagger scored the lone goal for the home side.

No-one could break the deadlock at Gledhow Lane as Northern Star and Acorn (Bramley) shared the spoils in a goalless draw.

At Primrose Lane, Republica Internationale beat Temple 2-1 thanks to goals from Oliver Lines and Bartolome Sando.

James Jennings scored for Temple, who had Cameron Cooper sent off.
