Leeds Combination League: Harehills denied by Parnaby's fightback
HAREHILLS WMC were denied their first victory of the season in the Jubilee Premier as hosts Hunslet Parnaby recovered from being 3-1 down to seal a dramatic 4-3 victory.
Harehills looked destined for their maiden triumph after goals in the opening 10 minutes from Trevor Johnson, Andrius Kerys and Ricky Smith saw them 3-1 up at the interval.
But Parnaby duo Jamie Davis and Kyle Swithenbank both bagged braces to earn their side a dramatic comeback victory.
In Division One, travelling to 11th-placed Oulton Athletic, East Leeds were aiming to get off the board with a win. And while Liam Atkinson scored for the hosts, goals from Paul Cuthbertson, Terry Palmer and Luke Camp meant East Leeds had finally won in the league.
Just above them is Commercial HQ, who travelled to Beachwood Sundays knowing that a win would put them level on points with their opponents.
But the win eluded them as HQ striker Damien Collins rounded off the performance of the weekend, netting five times as his side ran at 6-3 winners.
Fourth and fifth-placed sides Pendas Arms and Bramley Town met with Bramley needing a win to steal their opponents’ fourth-place spot.
And though Kallum Long netted a brace for the Arms, the Bramley quartet of Scott Kirk, Scott Barlow, Shane Hanson and Michael O’Hanlon secured a 402 win for the travelling side.
Elsewhere, Chapel Allerton knew that a win at struggling Hare & Hounds would put them top for the time being with runaway leaders New Pudsey in cup action.
However, the 3-1 defeat may well come back to haunt them later in the season.
Though there were just three games played in Division Two, there were a whopping 33 goals scored at an average of 11 goals per game.
The tightest affair came at Acorn Bramley where Faz Ezra’s hat-trick for visitors Sporting Pudsey cancelled out strikes from Josh Simpson and Mickie Fletcher.
When Adam Shaw added a fourth for Pudsey the game win was secured as his side move to third.
FC Horsforth Saints may only be in fifth-placed but they should not be mistaken for challengers after dropping just two points all season.
Playing in only their sixth league game the year they trounced bottom side FC West Leeds 13-0 with as Scott Neilson and Jack Pennington each scored four along with a hat-trick from Matt Whiteley.
AFC Elford sit one place above West Leeds, but against league-leaders South Seacroft they shipped in one more goal as they were left embarrassed by a 14-0 scoreline. Joe Johnson hit five while Luke Hunter and Danny Thorpe chipped in with hat-tricks.
Though you wouldn’t have expected a bigger winner mentioned than the one South Seacroft enjoyed, Division 3A’s second-placed side ran riot at woeful Original Oak who have lost every game this season.
While there were seven goalscorers for Halfway House Bramley, Alex Waters and Joe Standing were the pick of the bunch as they both netted hat-tricks,
With their nearest challengers romping to victory, league-leaders Wortley Knights were under pressure as they entertained fourth-placed Republica Internatinale.
And in a well-fought clash, they had to settle for a share of the points in a thrilling 4-4 tie as Jamie Rawson, Matt Booth and Oliver Lines each netted doubles.
Elsewhere, third-placed side West Leeds Farnley secured a 7-4 win at Amaranth Athletic, who are languishing in eighth at the moment.
And finally, in Division 3B, none of the top four sides were in action, meaning Moortown Albion Reserves, FC Armley, Northern Star and Temple were able to secure vital wins against Black Lion, Bramley Villagers, Millshaw Park Reserves and FC Retailers respectively.
