Leeds Combination: Beechwood prove to be top dogs after massive win

Barry Edwards and Liam Robinson were forced to fight for the match ball as FC Beechwood's 7-1 away thrashing of East Leeds Reserves sent them top of Division Two, writes JACK BRAIN.

Joe Phillips’s goal went relatively unrecognised due the hat-tricks of his two team-mates but it helped to narrow the goal difference gap to five between themselves and title rivals Moortown Albion.

A 5-2 victory over West Yorkshire Falcons helped FC Corpus Christi to move into sixth and almost half of their team found the net in doing so, including the likes of Macca Grahame, Steve Ely, Karl Dixon and Ben Ross.

AFC Travellers extended their lead at the top of Division 3A to six points as they scraped a 4-3 win over FC Armley.

Goals from Michael Doyle, Gordon Booth, Jack Hill and Paul Barrett all proved decisive in taking all three points and putting the pressure on title challengers Churwell Blues to make up a six-point gap.

Pudsey Athletic’s winless run during this campaign continued, despite a valiant effort away at Republica Internationale.

Robbie Ingham and Duncan Spence both found the net for the visitors, but a Mohamad Hamaway double cancelled them out before Oliver Lines and Matthew Booth inflicted more misery upon struggling Athletic.

In the division’s final game, Northern Star were out of this world against FC West Leeds by a 4-1 scoreline.

Stuart Brown’s brace and Atal Habibi’s effort sent Northern Star into the ascendancy and the game was done when Kieran Dunn added a fourth.

In Division 3B, hosts Sporting Pudsey Reserves and FC Crossgates shared a thrilling 4-4 draw. The point took Pudsey into third with Crossgates up to seventh.

Bottom-of-the-table FC Armley Reserves held fourth-bottom hosts Amaranth Athletic to a 2-2 draw despite goals from Wilson and Wright for Amaranth.

FC West Leeds Reserves claimed a comprehensive 2-0 away win at FC Elford. The victory sent West Leeds to eighth with Elford remaining second-bottom.
