Junior Football: Talented Farsley teens fly the flag for Leeds at the Etihad

Unnerved by their famous surroundings, Farsley took an early lead through Olivia Auker before going 2-0 up when Sophia Mottram headed home from a corner.

As Farsley continued to impress, Auker then bagged her second before impressive midfielder Emma Dawson then hammered home the away side’s fourth.

Brilliantly, the Celts then took a 5-0 lead into the interval after Ellie Casper finished at the second attempt, following her initial header which hit the crossbar.

A wounded City pushed hard from the start of the second half but the hosts were hit for six when Auker took on the home defence and slid the ball home to complete her treble.

City finally pulled a goal back with a high looping cross from the left but Farsley fittingly had the final say when Auker tucked away her fourth shortly before the full time whistle.

Club spokesman David Hunt said: “The parents and players are eager to thank the people at the Ethiad complex for making them welcome.

“They are also eager to point out their overwhelming pride in the girls, some of whom have been with the club for seven years or more.

“They have been trained and nurtured by the remarkable coach Mark Sales, who has achieved his dream of seeing his team perform almost perfectly well but will be looking to show areas for improvement.”

Beeston Juniors Under-10s are also celebrating after receiving a stylish new set of threads thanks to local McDonald’s franchisees, Anne Wainwright and Pritpal Singh.

The strip was donated to the team as part of the McDonald’s FA Charter Standard Kit Scheme, which is now in its third year and has benefitted over 2,000 children and teenagers across Leeds and the surrounding areas.

Singh, who owns and operates 24 McDonald’s restaurants across Yorkshire, said: “We’re delighted that so many clubs and footballers have been able to benefit from the scheme. Grassroots clubs such as Beeston JFC invest an incredible amount of time and support to local communities, giving young people the chance to get involved in a sport and feel part of a team.”

And Wainwright, who owns and operates three restaurants in East Leeds and another one in the Wakefield area, said: “It’s so important that businesses like McDonald’s support grassroots football, as it means clubs such as Beeston JFC can use the money saved by the kit and equipment to invest in training more coaches, improving facilities and reducing the costs passed on to players and their parents. You can see just how much the kids get out of it.”

In the weekend’s junior football action, Leeds Schools FA Under-12s enjoyed a 3-0 victory at home to Retford in their fifth game of the Junior Star League.

In the Harrogate & District Junior League, Kirkstall Crusaders Under-16s romped to an 11-2 victory at The Bedale Bees Under-16s in Division B.

The Bees were stung as Faisal Shiek bagged a five-timer, supported by strikes from Matty Robinson, Jimmy Mellor, Rinor Ejupi, Eliels Anku, Hakkinen Annani and a debut goal from Danar Ahmed

With Brad Dobson coming off injured and captain Ellis Redfearn orchestrating the defence, Bedale had no reply to Kirkstall’s forward threat.

Man of the match plaudits went to centre half Neel Chavda whose lightening pace mopped up everything at the back.
