The 30-year-old was substituted just before the hour mark as the Sulphurites beat Exeter City 2-1 at St James Park on Tuesday evening.

A number of clubs have faced an increase in muscle injuries this season and Weaver believes that is down to the intense fixture schedule.

“It is a tight hamstring, we are concerned about him,” admitted Weaver.

“He is a key figure. This is the problem with the intensity of the games, there has been no respite.

“There was no respite for the players last season because during lockdown they were out road running, that was the only way of getting them fit.

“There was a 10-day break after the play-offs, it is understandable there will be injuries. We won’t use it as an excuse, having key players out, we will just go again.”

Brendan Kiernan scored a 31st-minute opener for the visitors with Jack Muldoon netting the winning goal with 15 minutes to play after Jake Taylor hauled Exeter level just after half time.

Kiernan was withdrawn in the latter stages of the contest but Weaver still hopes he will be fit to face Salford City this weekend.

“Brendan turned his ankle slightly but I don’t think there is any extent to the injury that he could really be out on Saturday,” he added.

“It is good that it is not a pull or serious damage.”

Tuesday’s win in Devon was Harrogate’s first in five games as they look towards a meeting with Salford on Saturday. City drew 1-1 with Newport County in midweek, and sit ninth in the table, five points above Harrogate.

Weaver’s side stayed in Exeter following their win on Tuesday and travelled back to Yorkshire on Wednesday. They will be given a day to rest on Thursday before returning to training on Friday.
