Wednesday target Fryatt could still have future at Hull – Bruce

STEVE BRUCE is not ruling out Matty Fryatt and Robert Koren having a Hull City future beyond this season – if they continue to impress between now and May.

The Tigers chief has revealed that he will address the issue of players coming off contract as soon as the club secure their Premier League status for another season, with the two prominent names on that list being club captain Koren and striker Fryatt.

Hull switch attentions from top-flight matters to FA Cup quarter-final business at home to Sunderland on Sunday, with the duo – whose deals expire in June – having used the competition as a window to showcase their talents to Bruce in the New Year.

Despite Fryatt finding opportunities scant in the first half of the campaign and being pushed further down the pecking order following the £14m capture of Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long in January, Bruce has been impressed with his impact when called upon, more especially in the cup.

Fryatt, who turned 28 yesterday, netted twice in the 2-0 victory at Southend United in round four and produced two decent performances in the last-16 games with Brighton and has also made six league appearances from the bench since Christmas.

Bruce turned down a second loan approach for Sheffield Wednesday for Fryatt at the end of January, with the ex-Leicester City forward spending a restorative loan spell at Hillsborough earlier this season which saw him net four times in nine appearances.

Koren has also shown his value to Bruce, having made 20 appearances for the club this season, despite missing two months of the campaign in the autumn after breaking a bone in his foot.

On the situation with his out-of-contract players and more especially Koren and Fryatt, Bruce said: “Robbie and Matty are the two. When we secure Premier League (status), we will all kick into gear and start looking at what we do for next year. It all starts again. Koren has been my captain since I came here. We will sit down with them when we know where we are going to be.

“Certainly with the performances of Koren and Fryatt, particularly Fryatt, I have been pleased. I am just seeing Fryatt and he has certainly got something to offer.”
