The stats will show that Hughton has far more experience than Monk having taken charge of more than double the amount of games than his counterpart, but the two remain equal in their head-to-head record going into Saturday night’s showdown at Elland Road.

Since his first managerial role as caretaker at Tottenham Hotspur in 1997, Hughton has taken charge of 348 games in a 20-year career. He steered Newcastle United to the Championship title in 2010 and had stints at Birmingham City and Norwich City before taking over at Brighton in 2014.

Hughton has won 58 of his 117 games as Seagulls boss, a win percentage of 49.6 per cent beaten only by his Newcastle United side of 2009.

Monk, by comparison, has had a far shorter coaching career, having only managed Swansea City for a year before taking charge of Leeds in the summer. The Whites boss has won 23 of 44 fixtures in all competitions in his first season, his win percentage being 52.3 per cent.

The two managers have met just twice in opposing dugouts, the first a 3-0 victory for Monk’s Swansea City over Hughton’s Norwich in 2014. It was two years before they met again, Brighton’s 2-0 victory over Leeds in December making it one victory apiece.

Hughton has already came out on top against Monk once this season, but with far more at stake at Elland Road, who will prevail this time?
