Guiseley looking to end their poor away-day run

MARCUS BIGNOT’S Guiseley side will look to capitalise on Gateshead’s lack of match sharpness as they travel to Tyneside today in search of a much-needed three points; something they have not experienced on the road since the start of December.

Guiseley sit in a precarious 20th position; hovering dangerously above the National League North drop zone on goal difference, and having won just one of their last five fixtures, joint manager Bignotwill be hoping his men can quickly turn their fortunes around.

Their task will not be easy by any means, however. They come up against a Gateshead side who are sitting pretty in a comfortable mid-table spot.

But the Tynesiders have not played since December 28, and Guiseley also had a fixture cancellation themselves last week; their own Yorkshire derby at Farsley Celtic was postponed for the second time in a week due to a frozen pitch.

That derby clash has now been rearranged for Tuesday, February 9 at the Citadel with a 7.45 pm kick-off.

The Nethermoor outfit will be looking to break a current bad form of spell as they prepare to go on their travels to the north east.

They have lost their last three away games in the league 1-0 – most recently to high-flying sides York City and Chester FC and before that to Chorley.

The Lions have strengthened their squad since they were last in action with striker Bailey Thompson joining the club a week ago and hard-working defender Reece Kendall coming in on a month’s loan from Matlock.

Meanwhile, Farsley Celtic travel across the border to take on Chorley today looking to keep within touching distance of the play-offs, whilst Bradford Park Avenue host second-placed Chester.
