This was the perfect result for the home side’s management team after they signed new contracts earlier in the week.

After the match, Guiseley joint-manager Russ O’Neill was delighted with the outcome.

He said: “Today we knew the kind of game we would be in, we played some good stuff, this is one of our biggest wins of the season so far.

“We made some positive changes, brought a striker on for a defender and that helped us get forward and leave with the win.”

It was a bad start for the Lions, with Gloucester taking the lead thanks to captain Liam Daly scoring at the back post with a free header.

Guiseley thought they had equalised when Lee Shaw scored with a tap-in, but the linesman had his flag up and it was ruled out for offside.

The visitors so nearly doubled their advantage when Matt McClure, on his debut, was put through one on one, he tried to place his effort past Marcus Dewhurst but the host’s keeper did well to make himself big and save it.

Just before the break there was a lengthy delay with Joe Hanks having to be stretchered off after what looked like a fairly innocuous challenge.

There was a big chance in the opening stages of the second-half for the home side, a corner wasn’t cleared and it fell to Hamza Bencherif but his shot lacked power and the diving Zach Jeacock was able to save.

Guiseley levelled thanks to good build-up play between Aaron Martin and Gabriel Johnson, he crossed for Kaine Felix who had a simple tap-in.

Moments later the hosts were ahead, a Johnson corner hit the crossbar and rebounded off the unfortunate Jeacock and went in.

The result lifted the Lions up to sixth and they next face Darlington tomorrow night.

Faltering Farsley Celtic’s 4-0 thumping at Curzon Ashton means they have equalled their longest run without a win since November 2017.

The Celts have not tasted victory for four matches after unanswered efforts from Michael Calveley, Josh Askew, Andrew Scott and Olatunde Bayode.

Matt Regan had headed against a post for the visitors when the score was 0-0, but Adam Clayton spared Farsley further humiliation with a goal-line clearance from Rob Evans.

Tom Clare scored with the last kick of the game for Bradford Park Avenue, but Lee Ndlovu and James Armson efforts earned Brackley a 2-1 triumph.

Adam Marriott’s 28th goal of the season proved the difference as York City fell four points behind table-topping King’s Lynn after losing 1-0 at their title rivals.

The 28-year-old former Lincoln and Stevenage striker pounced in the 67th minute to give the hosts, who have played two games fewer than the Minstermen, a big advantage in the race for the division’s sole automatic-promotion spot.

York had earlier created the better chances in a tense contest.

Top-scorer Jordan Burrow glanced a header wide on seven minutes, fellow forward Alex Kempster also missed the target from a Kieran Green cross and Sean Newton saw a chance blocked on the line.

In the second half, Green fired wide after exchanging passes with Kempster, who went on to shoot straight at Alex Street and then scuff another opportunity to open the scoring. A share of the spoils would have still been a boost for Steve Watson’s men, but Street proved equal to Newton’s late free kick.
