Ex-Leeds United midfielder Delph in provisional England squad for Euro 2016

The one-time Elland Road prospect is among the 26 players chosen by coach Roy Hodgson for England’s preparation matches.

Liverpool’s James Milner, who like Delph began his career at United, also made the cut when Hodgson announced his squad this morning. Ex-Leeds trainee Danny Rose was included in a group of seven defenders.

Manchester United teenager Marcus Rashford, 18, is one of the surprise inclusions less than three months after making his first-team debut.

The uncapped striker’s form has seen him fast-tracked into a group of forwards along with Harry Kane, Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy. Jermain Defoe and Andy Carroll miss out.

Andros Townsend, a former United loanee who won the last of his 10 caps in October, comes in following Danny Welbeck’s knee injury but there is no place for Arsenal’s Theo Walcott.

Leicester’s Danny Drinkwater, who impressed on his debut against Holland in March, is included in the squad, as are Jack Wilshere and Jordan Henderson as the pair make their way back from injury.

Everton centre-back Phil Jagielka is the high-profile defensive absentee.
