Bennett is hoping for the chance to face his 
big brother

The Doncaster Rovers winger was ecstatic when the League One outfit were handed a third-round trip to Carrow Road in the draw at the end of last month and is just hoping his sibling gets the green light to play.

The Canaries midfielder is pushing for a start after recovering from injury, with Norwich manager Chris Hughton revealing he is ‘very close’ to featuring.

Bennett said: “For me, it was the dream draw; although probably not for the other lads.

“I was watching the draw thinking, ‘If we don’t get Norwich, I hope we get Manchester United or Chelsea. For me, it is the best outcome I could have hoped for.

“It’s the first chance we have had to play against each other in the professional game and it is going to be a good one for me and the family. It will be a great occasion, especially for my mum and dad to see both their kids maybe playing.

“We are completely different players and characters. But we get on like a house on fire and he’s my best friend.

“He has been injured and his main aim is to get fit and it might be a comeback game for him, whether it’s getting half an hour in or a start and playing 60 minutes. That would be good for him.

“He’s been playing right wing and I have been playing on the left and there’s a good chance we will come up against each other. I have to put the ball through his legs.”

Bennett, almost two years younger than his brother, admits he is seeking to follow in his footsteps to the Premier League and is full of admiration for the way in which Norwich have put faith in Football League talent.

He added: “They put a lot of faith into lower-league players, which is good and many have gone there and proved themselves.

“It’s a great thing to me and shows the lads who are down a bit lower they can do it in the Premier League and do a good job.

“Everyone’s aim in League One and the Championship should be to play at the top level. If you don’t want to do that, I don’t really see the point in wanting to play football.

“That should be every footballer’s aspirations and it’s definitely mine.”
