Chris Wood scored a sublime late goal that sealed Leeds United’s first win of the 2015-16 Npower Championship season.

Tom Adeyemi had put Leeds ahead on the stroke of half-time, but the second half saw an early equaliser from Derby County as the Rams relentlessy pounded the Leeds goal in search of a winner.

Leeds refused to crumble, however, and got their reward when Lewis Cook’s impressive run allowed Wood to grab the win for Leeds.

An Alex Mowatt own goal broke Leeds United’s first-half resistance, before a free-kick in the second half found Jake Buxton, whose header soared past a stranded Marco Silvestri.

This capped off a miserable end to the year for Leeds, which had seen them without a win in their previous five league fixtures.

Derby County 3 Leeds United 1 – October 5, 2013

Steve McClaren’s opening game in charge of Derby in his first spell as manager ended in a 3-1 win over Leeds, which meant the Rams leapfrogged the Whites in mid-table.

Derby were 2-0 up inside 25 minutes after goals from Chris Martin and Johnny Russell put Leeds United in early trouble.

Jason Pearce restored some hope with a goal on the stroke of half-time. However, Leeds could not push on and were punished by a late goal from Will Hughes, capping off another poor league run for Leeds.

An equalising goal from Paul Green against his old club could not help Leeds at the iPro Stadium, as two second-half goals from Derby ended Leeds’ winning league run.

Conor Sammon had given Derby an early lead before Green’s effort drew Leeds, perhaps undeservedly, level at half-time.

Leeds significantly improved in the second half, but ironically were undone with two goals that condemned them to a 3-1 loss and ended their winning run in the league.

Simon Grayson’s Leeds side were pushed out of the the top six on a frustrating Boxing Day trip to Derby.

Leeds had a host of chances to lead the game, including a six-yard Luciano Becchio header which the Argentinian ace sent wide of the target.

Derby typically capitalised on Leeds’ missed chances, going 1-0 up on 67 minutes through Jamie Ward, further adding to the Whites’ poor run against Derby and putting their promotion credentials in question.
